Eleven-year-old Olive moves into an old house on Linden street. As soon as she first crosses the doorstep, Olive knows that something is terribly wrong. The paintings on the walls creep her out and the dark basement is scary. While digging around in one of the many bedrooms, Olive soon discovers a pair of old glasses which enable her to move in and out of the paintings and eplore the worlds within. She meets Morton, a nine-year-old boy trappped inside one of the paintings, desperate to get out, and three cats which guard different parts of the house. Olive then finds out that the dead owner of the house does not want her here, and will do anything to get rid of her. Olive has to do everything she can to protect herself and the rest of the house from the shadows and the powers of the painter that traps people inside his ominous paintings.
